Bring ID, Authorization to Test letter, watch, comfortable clothes, snacks, water, and essential meds for your NCLEX exam.

Are you gearing up to take the NCLEX exam? If so, you may wonder what to bring to NCLEX. It’s a common concern and one that I’ve experienced myself.

So, what should you pack in your bag? Have you prepared everything needed for your big day? Scroll down and refer to my post now!

What To Bring To NCLEX?

You must bring identification documents and the Authorization to Test letter (ATT). Besides, you should wear comfortable clothing and have a watch to manage your time effectively.

In addition to must-have items, you can bring optional things, such as snacks and water, for a smoother exam day experience. Now, let’s look at these items in more detail and understand why they are necessary!

Must-Have Items

To ensure you come fully prepared for your NCLex exam, here is a detailed checklist of things you must bring:

Identification Documents

Your identification document is the first and foremost item to bring to the NCLEX exam. This could be a valid driver’s license, passport, or government-issued ID.

The name on your ID must match the name on your Authorization to Test letter to verify your identity and ensure that the right person is taking the exam.

The ID should have a recent, recognizable photo and your signature. Not having a valid ID may prevent you from taking the NCLEX exam. So, double-check this requirement before you leave for the test center.

Authorization to Test Letter

The Authorization to Test letter is another crucial document you must bring to your NCLEX exam. This letter is sent by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) after registering for the exam and paying the required fees.

The letter contains your authorization number, candidate identification number, and the validity dates of your authorization. You will not be allowed to sit for the NCLEX exam without it.

Comfortable Clothing

While this element seems like a minor detail, wearing comfortable clothing can significantly impact your performance during the exam. You will sit for an extended time, so wear clothing that keeps you comfortable throughout the testing period.

I recommend wearing light, breathable fabrics. Also, dress in layers to adjust your clothing to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Reliable Watch

In addition to the essential items above, I recommend bringing a reliable watch to your NCLEX exam. Time management is a crucial aspect of any exam, whether Kaplan or NCLEX.

While the testing center will have a clock, having your watch can provide additional reassurance and help you better manage your time.

However, be sure to check the rules of your testing center, as some may have restrictions on the types of watches allowed.

Additional Items

Besides the must-have items above, there are optional things you can bring to make your experience more comfortable and aid your concentration, as listed below:

Snacks and Water

Keeping your body fueled is crucial during a lengthy exam like the NCLEX. A growling stomach or feelings of dehydration can distract you when you try to concentrate.

Pack light, non-perishable snacks like granola bars, nuts, or fruit to avoid hunger. Remember to bring a water bottle too. Staying hydrated can help maintain your focus and reduce fatigue.

Spare Batteries/Power Bank

Technology is essential to modern exams, and the NCLEX is no exception. Whether for your calculator or digital watch, having spare batteries or a power bank can save you from unnecessary stress.

If your device’s battery dies in the middle of the exam, having a backup power source can be a lifesaver.

Noise-Canceling Earphones/Earplugs

Test centers can sometimes be noisy, and you must maintain concentration during the exam. Noise-canceling earplugs or earphones can help you block out surrounding sounds, allowing you to focus solely on your test. Remember to check the rules of your specific test center before using these items.

Prescription Medications

Are you on any prescription medications? Don’t forget to bring them with you. The NCLEX exam can be long, and you don’t want to get distracted by any symptoms.

Having your medication on hand will help ensure your health doesn’t become another obstacle on your crucial test day.

What Shouldn’t You Bring to NCLEX?

There are specific items prohibited in the testing center, and bringing them can lead to your disqualification. Check the list below!

1. Possessions

Personal belongings, such as bags, wallets, and keys, are prohibited in the exam room. These items may cause distractions and pose security risks. Also, some students may use them to cheat. So, you must leave them in a secure locker provided by the testing center.

2. Cell Phones

Your cell phone is your constant companion but has no place in the NCLEX exam room. Using mobile phones is strictly prohibited to maintain the integrity of the exam.

Some students may use their phones for cheating. These devices can also disturb other test-takers. So, leave your phone in your car or put it in a locker the testing site provides.

3. Weapons

Weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden in the exam room. Things include guns, knives, or any other object that potentially causes harm. This policy ensures the safety and well-being of all test-takers and staff.

4. Cameras

Another item you are not allowed to bring into your exam room is cameras, including cameras on cell phones. Using these devices can compromise the integrity of the exam.

5. Tablets

Like cell phones, tablets risk cheating and disturbing the peace in the testing center. They are prohibited in the NCLEX exam room. If you bring them, you must store them in the provided locker for the test duration.

6. Educational Materials

You may want to bring your notes or textbooks for last-minute cramming. Yet, the test center does not permit educational materials to maintain the exam’s fairness.

7. Fitness Bands

Even fitness bands are not allowed in the NCLEX exam room. These devices can send and receive data, potentially providing an avenue for dishonest practices. Leave such devices at home or in a secure locker.
