There’s nothing like free online material. Luckily, there are tons of free NCLEX websites on the internet. You just need to know where to look! Here is a definitive guide to all things online and free for the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX -PN!
Free NCLEX Practice Questions
NCLEX Questions are a great way to practice for the NCLEX online. They get you used to the style of the exam, as well as teaching you content when you read the rationales. You’re well on your way to becoming an RN.
Tip: If you want an unlimited supply of NCLEX questions and content with quality rationales, find a really good NCLEX book!
If you want free questions, you can find thousands of them here:
- NRSNG.com
The nice thing about these questions is that they are rated by category AND by difficulty. These seem like quality questions as well.
- NursesLabs
This page has thousands of NCLEX questions arranged by category, and can be practiced in a really convenient way. No scrolling for answers, and they even give you rationales. It’s just a great place to practice for free!
- Amy’s Blog
Amy’s blog was set up in 2009, while she was in nursing school herself. Since then, she has posted over 1000 NCLEX-style questions with rationales on her blog.
- Quizlet Free NCLEX Questions
As if you aren’t buried in NCLEX questions already. Here’s a few thousand more. Quizlet lets users publish quizzes and practice questions. Did I say thousands of questions? I mean, literally, thousands in every subject imaginable. They are arranged as flashcards, so unfortunately, they don’t include detailed rationales.
- 150 NCLEX Questions PDF
Updated December 6, 2013: I found this page recently, and was surprised when this .pdf actually had 150 NCLEX questions on it, all with rationales! The only drawback is that the rationales and explanations seem a bit hurried. But, it’s free!
- NCLEX 10K Question of the Day
This website provides you with one free question in your inbox per day if you sign up. You can easily connect your Facebook account and get some practice every day. These are questions licensed from Lippincott’s, a leader in nursing education materials. You can be sure of their quality.
Tip: You can get access to all 10,000 NCLEX-RN 10K questions for 65 dollars.
- Free NCLEX Question Blog
Here’s a site that posts questions originating from Kaplan. Analysis, strategies, and rationales are included.
- Texas Nursing Schools Blog
Also check out this blog page. It lists links to some NCLEX gems including medications to monitor, more questions with rationales, body system visuals, tutorials, and more.
- TestPrepReview
This already popular site has NCLEX questions in many categories. Simply choose any category and you’ll have
a page full of NCLEX style questions! The answer keys are on the bottom. - NCLEX Review Blogspot, by University of Miami NCLEX Review Instructor
Written by a nurse, this blog gives you straight-to-the-point content about subjects ranging from pharmacology to infectious diseases and more. Everything is clear and simple. You can learn a lot here.
- The Giant Anonymous Study Guide
Here’s an impressive study guide someone posted. It has tons of mnemonics, gets straight to the point, and teaches you a lot. It’s been passed around the internet for a while. Created by some kind soul who really wanted to help us nursing students out!
- Dani’s Blog
This is another blog written by a former nursing student! Dani published case studies, care plans, and teaches you how to prioritize and assess through the eyes of an experienced RN. The NCLEX tests your critical thinking. Dani’s blog will take you one step closer to thinking like a nurse!
- Understanding the CBC
- Interpretation of ABGs
- Understanding Coagulation Tests
- Understanding Urinalysis
- Understanding Renal Function Tests
- Diabetes Treatment: Insulin and Oral Anti-diabetes Drugs
- Pharmacology Mnemonics by Nursing Education Consultants
This blogspot has picture after picture of high quality mnemonics. A mnemonic is any picture, phrase, or study tool that helps you remember things that aren’t easy to remember. If you need to study up on your drugs and NCLEX pharmacology, this is the ultimate source of mnemonics for you.
- tootRN with Jannah George
A very helpful blog, Jannah breaks down tough NCLEX strategies and concepts in an easy to follow manner. From there, you can check out her YouTube channel for even more videos!
- ALFA – Assisted Learning for All
Over 150 quality videos guiding you through nursing topics ranging from Arterial lines to taking manual blood pressures. Generously managed free of charge by Dr. Terri Whitt, and special thanks to various contributors of the videos as well.
- Hurst Review’s Free Material
Hurst Review provides free NCLEX and core content on its website. They give you three videos, a page of session notes, and 5 free NCLEX questions.
The first video is kind of a ‘salesy’ video, but the next two are full of information about fluid retention, hypervolemia, heart failure, and pacreatitis. The five questions seem really professional with good rationales (as if they’d really be found on the NCLEX). After finishing, you just wish there were more questions and videos!
- Nurse Nacole’s Channel
Nurse Nacole releases videos for nursing students, new nurses, and of course, people studying for the NCLEX. Watch free strategies, tips, and lessons here. She also posts some NCLEX questions on her blog, NurseNacole.com.
- AllNursingNotes Channel
All Nursing Notes has more than a dozen videos on various subjects on the NCLEX including pharmacology, infection control, neuro, and cardiac. Also check out the AllNursingNotes website.
- Anneliese’s Channel
Anneliese Garrison has been on the NCLEX Review scene helping tutor students, selling online review packages, and conducting seminars through her website Caring4You.Net. She also manages this YouTube channel with videos about prioritization, delegation, and reading EKGs.
Tip: Anneliese has received over 20 positive reviews! Check out what other students have said about her teaching style and student support.
- NCLEX Reviewer with Rationales
AndroidThis app is actually very good. The questions don’t seem overly simple (there are application questions, not just ones that test your knowledge) and the interface is easy to use. The rationales are very thorough (not one sentence like some other apps). Also included in rationales are exam strategies (how to arrive at each correct answer via elimination and prioritizing). All in all, one of the best truly free apps out there!
- NCLEX Mastery Lite
This “lite” version features more than 100 flashcards. NCLEX Mastery is an app that features quality mnemonics, pharmacology questions, and much more for your NCLEX Review. Although you do need to pay for their premium version to unlock all content, the free version is extremely easy to use and includes quality content. Check out their PN version as well!
Tip: Check out reviews for their paid app here. As of now, they charge about twenty-five dollars. People love them!
- NCLEX Flashcards App
Apple, AndroidThe good: This app has tons of free content and information. It covers pharmacology, lab values, psychosocial integrity, safety and infection control, and more. And it’s all free!
The Not So Good: The information is displayed in a slightly difficult to read format, and the interface and what to press is confusing when in “study” mode. This app does not have NCLEX questions (it doesn’t claim to, it’s a flashcard app).
- The NCLEX 50 App
This app has 50 NCLEX questions with rationales. They offer more questions (over 1300) for a fee. The 50 questions are good, but most are knowledge questions, and some seem a bit too easy to answer. Still, it’s 50 questions you didn’t have before, and the rationales are pretty good.
Free Nursing Content Review
Answering questions is great, but you may want some nursing content review. Many say that a complete NCLEX review consists of two parts: NCLEX Questions and Core Content Review.
Tip: Do you need a really complete, thorough content review? That’s what Hurst NCLEX Review is known for. See for yourself.
If it’s been a while since you were in nursing school, or if you just want to refresh yourself on core content, these sites will help you on your way:
These free courses offered by www.rnceus.com goes over the details of many of the most fundamental sets of labs: the CBC, urinalysis, renal, ABGs, and coagulation. Many other courses are also offered for free here. This site is intended for nurses seeking Continuing Education Credits, but there are quite a few courses that would help you on the NCLEX, as well! Here are some more:
Tip: A new company called iSuperLearn uses subconscious audio techniques to help you learn core content. At twenty bucks, it’s worth a look!.
Free NCLEX Pharmacology Reviews
Free NCLEX Videos
Free NCLEX Apps
Mobile applications are the big thing now. A lot of NCLEX Reviews have already jumped on the bandwagon. And why not? It’s so convenient to pull out your phone and tablet and start studying, people are buying them up. Here are some of the best ones out there (this is in my personal opinion after perusing through each one).
Update 11/16/2013: I’ve updated the apps listed here, and taken a second look at many of them to give you better insights on the pros and cons of each.
For a complete list for Android, search ‘NCLEX’ on the play store.
For a complete list of NCLEX Apps for iTunes, browse here.
Tip: One last tip: have you thought of NCLEX tutoring? How does a one-on-one meeting with a professional NCLEX instructor sound? Read reviews for MyGuru NCLEX Tutoring!

Was my article helpful or interesting?
If so, I invite you to ‘like’ Kevin’s Review on Facebook for nursing news, funnies, and NCLEX stuff!
Did I miss anything? If you know of a great resource for nursing students that belongs on this list, let me know in the comments below!
Thanks, Kevin! It’s hard sometimes to find all these websites in a search. I’m still deciding if I want to buy an NCLEX Review, but for now I’ll try some free questions.
use can always run to the library and barrow saunders and kaplan
thank u so much for all the info Kevin ur the best
thanks dud 4for creating this .. it is very needful
You’re welcome! Thanks for reading.
Very very helpful. Thanks
Thanks guys this info are very useful 4 overseas nurse like us dat want 2 migrate 2 d US it will me prepare will 4 nclex exams real appreciate it
You’re very welcome!
Elizabeth you are absolutely correct! I also had difficulties in finding a good materials. If you aren’t sure whether to buy or not, you can try this NCLEX mobile app ,hope it helps you as well.
I would add NCLEXpreceptor.com They have a mobile app that has a lot of practice NCLEX questions. App have gotten pretty good reviews so far. Their website also has NCLEX questions and tips.
Thanks, Jonathan! I’ll definitely check out their app!
Meg and Jonathan, I’ve taken a look at your app while updating the app section of this page. My priorities when including apps on this list:
1) Amount of FREE material
2) Thorough rationales
3) Ease of Use
NCLEX Preceptor offers some free material, but seems to be only in the categories of Health Promotion and Terminology. Of these two, terminology has no available NCLEX questions. I found it difficult to navigate…when I accidentally skip a question it doesn’t let me go back and answer the previous one. Also, the free rationales seem to just repeat the question in answer form.
If you can increase the value of the free offerings, I’d be glad to include this app! In my honest opinion, it was a close tie between yours, NCLEX Flashcards, and the NCLEX-50. Let me know if you make changes, and I’ll take another look!
Hi
I feel so overwhelm sometimes.I graduated with an asoiciate degree in nursing in 1996.I fear failing the exam .I have limited money to purchase any material.I guess I wish I had a group I could study with .I do better with a study group.I did my exam in Trinidad,so I am having to study content and everything from scratch. Thanks for listening.
Jeanine
Yes, I think it must be very hard to start over with nursing content, especially when it’s been a long time or from another country.
If you don’t have tons of money, you can always buy an older edition of a book, or practice some good questions with rationales online. You can even go to the library and possible find some NCLEX books. Since you’ve already been a nurse for so long, you already know how to think like one. You might just need to focus on being comfortable with the American language and our NCLEX-style of questions.
Good luck, and come back and let us know how it goes!
Jeanine, I am planning to take the NCLEX in two months and i am panicking right now.. I am actually losing hope that I wil pass. Just like you, I graduated in 1996! 17 years ago! I feel like I have forgotten everything. I am trying to review but with a toddler at the moment, I can’t focus 100% on reviewing. 🙁
Kevin Pan, you are a sweetheart for weriting about all these free resources! Thank you!
You’re welcome, Cher! I’m glad it’s useful to you. Two months is a long time. Don’t panic yet 🙂 Definitely come back and let us know when you pass!
thank Kevin Pan. I will try to look through all information you re suggested, however, I feel overwhelming for me to study Nclex, am really struggle in passing this test, God bless you in helping others, thank again. therese.
You’re welcome! I hope it helps. Keep us updated!
Hi Kevin! I would like to ask if NCLEX4000 has almost the same content with NCLEX3500?THanks!
I’m pretty sure the difference is that the NCLEX 4000 has 500 new questions on it. That’s it!
This site is amazing- it’s nice to have everything in one spot! I take the NCLEX in 3 weeks and I live not having to cart a huge study book around! Thanks!!
Thanks! I’m glad I could help. Let us know how you do!
Great web site.. I graduate May 2014.. getting ready for my NCLEX… wonderful material to review..
Thanks this was really helpful. I am having to re take my boards. They were last taken in 1981 and things have changed a lot since then!! Wish me luck!
You’re welcome, and good luck!
I need to know more about the test. Mine was done on paper. Can you use a calculator during the test? How many questions on each section. Anything you can tell me will help!
For basic NCLEX info, I’d advise getting it right from the source: the NCSBN. Take a look at 2014’s Candidate Bulletin here: https://www.ncsbn.org/2014_NCLEX_Candidate_Bulletin.pdf
It’ll tell you how it works, what you can bring, prepare and all that stuff!
thank you so much for all of these wonderful resources. as a nursing student i am very excited to find this! i especially like the links that provide notes, etc. thanks!!!
You’re welcome! Glad it could help!
Amazing site for every ones especially nurses(student nurses). It really helps a lot especially during my review of the specific disorders. It discusses different concepts focusing on NCLEX review. Thanks for sharing. GOD BLESS
You’re welcome, Mark! Glad to help.
hi kevin..
I’m glad my husband found this site for me..This will help me lot in my NCLEX review.. kevin, i just wanna ask u if u have idea in my situation now, i’m now in Philippines, waiting for my spousal visa to be approved, and I’m married to american..I am a filipina planning to take the NCLEX, my question is, Do i need to take CGFNS, IELTS or any examinations aside from NCLEX to be a registered nurse there in USA? since i’m married to my american husband.. I’m confuse and want to have specific answer, cuz there’s lots of questions in my mind now.. thanks a lot.. hoping for your reply..:) Godbless
Arlene,
You will most likely need the CGFNS or IELTS. You should first find out what U.S. state you want to be a nurse in (each state has different rules and applications). Then follow the instructions for that state’s NCLEX applications.
hi,
thanks for your reply, futher question, 🙂 is it ok if my application for taking NCLEX is in SAIPAN? cuz the review center told me Saipan has the very simple and basic requirements, and then when i passed already the Nclex in God’s mercy, i can apply wherever state i want in USA like north carolina or connicticut for my reciprocity? is that possible?
Yes, that should be possible! I would just do some planning and look up the reciprocity requirements in whatever state you are planning to move to.
Hey Kevin,
You have an outstanding list here. Preparing and taking the NCLEX requires great effort and your compilation of these resources just made all nursing students happy. On that note, check out our free NCLEX exams here: http://nurseslabs.com/nursing-board-exam-questions/nclex-exams-practice-questions/
Thanks for the tip! I really like your offering. I updated this list to include it. Great job!
Excellent blog here! Also your web site loads up quickly! What host are you employing? Can I get your affiliate link to your host? I wish my internet site loaded up as quickly as yours lol
Thanks Kevin. My graduation is in 2 weeks and there’s a lot of useful websites and apps here. Thanks for taking the time to do that.
It has been a little over a year since I finished nursing school. I was pregnant in my last year and once the baby was born I just kept delaying taking the nclex over and over again. I am ready to get back to work but I feel like I have forgotten so much. I score terribly on practice tests and an so NOT ready for the nclex. I need a really good review to take me back to the basics….anyone know of any worthwhile review courses??
I am looking for an NCLEX review on audio. I seen Feurs but didn’t want to spend the money when I came across your blog and isuperlearn I just wanted to know about your experience with it if any I tried looking at reviews for it and didn’t find any I also went to their website but the 3 little videos they have for free I cant listen to gives me an error message on url. Do you have any other suggestions I may find audio for NCLEX content without the huge price tag thanks in advance
I’m trying to view the Free hurst material but its not free. How do I obtain this material and view the videos?
Hello Linda, you will have to navigate to their website first. Then, there will be a ‘Free Trial’ banner on the top right-hand corner. Click that, and you should be able to see their free content!
Another helpful question of the day site:
